Laurens Rohlfs

Anfang (in Swedish: ’enlarged, decorated initial’, in German: ’beginning’) is a molded relief made of recycled paper pulp. The 19 parts of the sculpture have been pressed and dried in molds before assembled on the wall with mounting screws. Cracks that appeared in the drying process are repaired with ash and wood glue. Departing from the formal and linguistic similarity between the letter A and a road leaning towards the horizon, the work engages with how form, material and language interplay in the creation of meaning.
